Spice up your coffee
Even though I can only endure watching Rachel Ray for very short periods of time because of her accent and intense perkiness, sometimes she shows some pretty good ideas. A while ago, she suggested adding cinnamon, cocoa, nutmeg, or any other combination of spices you might like, to ground coffee before brewing. Being a coffee fanatic, I had to try it.
I added cinnamon to some freshly ground columbian, and go figure, it turned out to be pretty good. It added scent more than flavor, which is probably what I should have expected. I’ve tried adding nutmeg in addition to the cinnamon, and that creates a very nice aroma as well. I don’t think I’ll be adding spices all the time, but it’s a nice little twist for my coffee every now and then.
I also tried adding cocoa, but didn’t care for it, as it didn’t add much scent or cocoa flavor, but did tend to make the coffee more bitter. Maybe if you added milk and sugar to it after brewing, it would be better.
