Word of the Week: Astragal
You know that strip of wood or metal that covers the gap between a set of double doors when they are closed? It’s usually attached to one of the doors and forces you to close one door before the other. Yeah, that thing. That’s an astragal.
It has other meanings, but I learned the above meaning while replacing the doors a shed during our last mission trip to Appalachia, when Paul, who happens to be structural engineer asked, “Are you going to put an astragal on the doors?” Not having any idea what he was talking about, I confidently replied, “Uh, sure, what’s that?”
