“Magnify, O My Soul”

Indeed, the snow was beautiful this weekend. Unfortunately, that didn’t lend itself to holding a choir concert. Despite the weather, however, the 2nd annual Deanery Christmas Choir Concert turned out to be a wonderful event.

The choirs from St. George Antiochian Cathedral in Pittsburgh, St. Michael in Greensburg, and St. George in New Kensington each sang hymns from the Advent and Nativity Liturgies, as well as traditional Carpatho-Russyn and contemporary carols. The selections from the Nativity Liturgy included two arrangements of the Megalynarion, two arrangements of the Communion Hymn, the Entrance Hymn, and the Trisagion. Also among the selections were three of Richard Toensing’s recently composed Carols of the Nativity.

Thanks to Father John Abdallah and the director and choir members of St. George in Pittsburgh, and to Father John Nosal and the director and choir members of St. Michael in Greensburg for coming and making such beautiful music. Thanks to Father Joel, to the choir, and to everyone at St. George in New Ken who helped organize the event. And thanks to everyone who braved the elements to come out and enjoy the concert.
