Pittsburgh word of the day: amblance

amblance |ˈam ‘blans|

noun

a vehicle specially equipped for taking sick or injured people to and from the hospital, esp. in emergencies.

See also: ambulance

I first heard a friend of Lor’s say this, and apparently he was famous among his friends for it. Yesterday, I heard a local news reporter say it at least 7 or 8 times in a single news report. It seems very important to place emphasis equally on both syllables in order to really get the Pittsburgh sound.
